UPDATE FRIDAY 3-19-2010
Last night the country of Haiti was pounded with heavy rains and winds. Severe storms fell throughout the night. Visions of homes made of sticks and sheets run through my mind, just trying to imagine how anyone could ever try to survive the howling winds and tropical down pours with nothing more than a sheet or cardboard. The rain water runs like flood waters down the mountains and into the cities, and rushing through the makeshift "tent" cities. The streets fill with rock, rubble, debris of from collapsed buildings, raw sewage, trash, and remnants from the areas of destruction that no one has ever touched. My next thought is.. What More Can We Do?
We can pray, and we do long for prayers. But prayer alone doesn't help those that are trying to survive in the pouring rain. The Bible says Faith without works is DEAD! There is time for prayer and there is time for action. Now is the time for action. We know what needs to be done, and we know that the Haitian people are not going to be able to survive the conditions dealt to them if we don't do something. Now is the time to join together.

What can a cardboard roof do in these conditions? How much rain can a sheet stretched over your head keep out? How do you protect your child from the rain and the wind? How long can you take wet rags and try to wipe the rain from your children's faces as it continues to rain? How do you stay warm in the night rains? How do you keep the water out? How do you ever dry your clothes? How do you face the next night knowing you are going to have go through it all again with nothing more than what you had last night?

It has been two months since the initial earthquake, and we are doing everything we can to begin the rebuilding process. We have purchased supplies and have shipped them in, but donations begin to trickle down. Everyone goes about their normal life, and long gone is the pictures of the people so helpless after such a catastrophic event. The TV's are gone, and so we go on about our lives. Thinking that because we don't hear about it on the news that everything is ok, and the US government and the UN has ran to the rescue. They did, but they are now gone or in the process of leaving.
This is not the case. Sure some relief has been brought in, but MUCH MORE is needed. We ask you to continue to work fervently towards providing shelter and contributing towards long term rebuilding. The Haitian people need shelter. They need blankets. They need money to rebuild. Please don't turn your back on them with "business as usual" mentality. Continue to give money and supplies that are needed. They need HELP.. and that help comes from people like you. Please continue to keep IMO on the frontline. Please let others know that we ARE helping, and that we need them to join in helping too.
Please help us. We desperately need you. The task ahead is great, but we are called for such a time as this!
Donations can be made through our website at www.imohaiti.org or our mailing address is PO Box 1145, Clendenin, WV 25045. Please be sure to let us know that it is for the earthquake.
